This weekend in Derby, UK, a massive event will be held at Chaddesden Park called the ‘Big 1’. It was originally due to be held earlier this year in June, but was postponed due to heavy rain. They had expected around 20,000 people to attend, so it will be interesting to see if there will be that many people around to attend giving it is the school holidays here. The Big 1 was also held in June last year in 2008 with an excellent turnout.
The itinerary has not been published but they expect proceedings to start at 12pm at the park, and finish at 6pm. There will be a parade to kick off proceedings, starting from the Sussex Circus Housing Office at 11.30am. The parade is due to be led by the Derby Serenaders International Showband.
A local homelesss charity has also got involved and many of their homeless or ex-homeless members will be performing in a band that will provide music and entertainment throughout the day. Other activites will include face painting and donkey rides for the children, circus skills, kites, a dog show, dance displays, and a variety of free art activities. There will also be plenty of shopping to do, as there will be lots of exhibition stalls for you to wander around.
The Derby Events Team are organising this event so contact them if you have any questions.
