I’ve always disliked having to talk in public. For some reason I was quite happy to read poems and to read from a script. But somehow it is more challenging when you know you are talking about something that you have written yourself, that is your own content. Because it is your own, then there seems more at stake, and you feel more vulnerable to what other people think about what you say.
I joined the Wellington Toastmasters club (New Zealand) and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the other members there and practise the skill of speech. When I moved to Bedford I was planning to join another Toastmasters club but the closest one was in another city and I didn’t have any transport. So I haven’t gone back yet, but now that I’ve moved to Derby I am looking around here. I did a search on you tube out of interest, and found this video by Mr Toogood from Christchurch, on Toastmasters that is interesting.
He also has a video on the Mayoress of Christchurch delivering the inauguration speech at the Women’s Toastmasters club.
Mr Toogood produces his own tv shows that are aired on Sky and Freeview and Saturn. His shows are also on his website and on his youtube channel.
