Alice reads the local mags

I was looking through the latest Derby edition of the magazine Country images for May 2010 and came across the following information that I wanted to investigate further:

From the Allestree Life magazine, Issue 23, May 2010 also has some useful pieces of information:

  • During the bank holiday weekend at the end of May the local artists around Derbyshire will be opening up their studios for the general public to see them at work, purchase art and do commissions.  More information is on the website for Derbyshire open arts.
  • Shacklocks are Solicitors & Investment Advisors based across the East midlands and have offices in Allestree.  Shacklocks, offer legal services in wills and property, disputes and family law.
  • RetailTrust are calling for volunteers ath their site in Derby at the Leylands Retirement Estate on Broadway.  The trust provides assistance for current and former employees from the retail trade.  The facilities at this retirement home include a restaurant and hairdresser and so on.  They are seeking help fromvolunteers in the following areas:  Befriending; computer training; a singing group; reading/creative writing group; painting/arts & crafts group; dancing & exercise programmes; visiting speakers and other interesting activites.  The contact details in the magazine are Lisa Hendy at and telephone 01332 558 352.
  • Volunteers are also sought by the Friends of the Royal Derby Hospital, and the contact person there is Enid Wilson at 01332 510 537.
