Sidmouth is 33.5 miles from Torquay according to google maps. That is, if you take the A380 and A3052, and by car that will take you just under an hour. The drive to Sidmouth is beautiful and I especially enjoyed those roads that were lined with trees on each side. Parts of this trip reminded me of the roads in New Zealand. These roads were however much narrower, and you had to be very cautious, especially near the bends, in case another car came from the opposite direction, in which case one of you must stop by the side to allow the other car to pass. This process will certainly slow you down, depending on the amount of traffic at the time.
There were some cute little boutiques in the town of Sidmouth. The walking is very good too, but you need to be careful about the rocks overhead.
